Canney welcomes funding for Flood Relief Schemes in Galway

I welcome the allocation of €58,500 for two Minor Works Schemes for Galway.

‘I have received confirmation from the OPW that they are to allocate funding for flood alleviation works to Galway County Council. An amount of €13,500 has been allocated for repairs to embankment at Derryoober, Woodford and €45,000 has been allocated for the installation of a surface water drain at Rafarn, Loughrea.

‘Galway County Council had applied for the funding under the Minor Work flood Mitigation Works Scheme.

‘I have continued to work with the Council and the OPW to provide funding for these schemes. Since 2016 in excess of €2,100,000 has been allocated to Galway County Council and City Councils under this scheme. The scheme is very relevant in providing flood protection in a short time frame.

‘I acknowledge the works of the Local Authorities and the co-operation of the OPW in funding these schemes.
