News that planning permission has been granted for a new primary care centre and a tourist car and bus park in Portumna was welcomed this week by Seán Canney TD.
The Galway East TD welcomed the decision by Galway County council to grant planning permission for a development in Portumna to include a new primary care centre on the ground floor and the completion of nine apartments on the first floor.
‘The development, situated in Dominic Street, Portumna, will include HSE designated space, pharmacy, GP designated space, circulation space and shared spaces. The primary care centre has a total of 577 square metres of 6,210 square feet. The facility will provide a one-stop-shop for primary care facilities for the Portumna area.
‘This decision follows on from the decision by Galway County Council to grant planning permission for a new car park and bus park at Portumna Castle. This decision is a major boost for tourism opportunities for the Castle. The facility, when complete, will allow for proper car and bus parking facilities at the Castle.
‘I, when Minister for the OPW, was delighted to have sanctioned this car park project in addition to the café in the Castle.
‘Portumna is ideally situated to develop and these two projects will help with its development.’
