Minister Canney confirms over €63.3m in 2026 National, Regional and Local roads funding for Galway County Council for projects in the county

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has confirmed €63,332,150 million in national, regional and local road funding for projects across County Galway as part of the 2026 roads investment programme.

The funding includes significant allocations for national road upgrades, regional and local road improvements, safety works, bridge rehabilitation and climate adaptation measures, supporting safer travel, improved connectivity and long-term resilience for communities across east Galway.

“This funding represents a major investment in Galway’s road network. It supports strategic national routes, critical local links, safety upgrades and climate resilience works, ensuring communities are better connected and protected while also supporting economic activity across the region,” Minister Canney said.

Minister Canney also noted that €4.5 million has been allocated in 2026 for the Galway City Bypass project, under the New Roads programme, reflecting its importance as a strategic national infrastructure project for the wider Galway region.
