Minister Canney confirms R332 Kilbannon Road Realignment to proceed to construction in Q1 2026
Minister Canney said the decision marks a major milestone for a project that local people have waited a long time to see delivered, having first been proposed approximately seven years ago.
“I am delighted that my Department has now approved the funding required for this project to proceed to construction,” Minister Canney said. “Local people have waited a long time for this. This project was first proposed around seven years ago, and I am delighted to see it finally coming to fruition.”
The works will deliver a significant safety and accessibility upgrade along the R332, including road realignment from Kilbannon village towards the GAA pitch, as well as a new footpath and cycleway linking St Benin’s National School.
“This investment will greatly improve safety for all road users,” Minister Canney added.
“The realignment and the new walking and cycling link between the school, the village and the GAA club will make a real difference for families and the wider community. It also reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to improving rural roads and active travel infrastructure across Galway.”
