Minister Canney encourages Galway businesses to avail of SEAI supports as over €3.68 million delivered locally

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, is encouraging businesses across Galway to take a look at the wide range of supports available through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), following confirmation that businesses in the county received more than €3.68 million in SEAI support during 2024 and 2025.

The funding has supported a large range of energy upgrades for Galway businesses including solar PV, heat pumps, insulation, energy audits and clean heat technology – helping businesses reduce energy costs, improve competitiveness and future-proof their operations.

Minister Canney said the supports are particularly important at a time when many businesses continue to face significant operating costs.

“Energy costs remain a major concern for businesses, community organisations and groups right across Galway. These SEAI supports are helping organisations reduce costs, improve efficiency and invest in more sustainable energy solutions,” Minister Canney said.

“I would encourage businesses, community groups and organisations across Galway to look at what is available.”

Among the supports currently available are rapid approval grants for solar energy systems, wall and roof fabric upgrades of up to €120,000, heating and cooling upgrades, including heat pumps, of up to €100,000, as well as technical assistance.

In 2025 alone, 102 businesses, community groups and charities in Galway benefited from almost €895,000 in support for solar PV.

Eligible SMEs can also avail of a €2,000 voucher towards the cost of an energy audit, which in many cases covers the full cost of the assessment. In 2025 142 organisations in Galway benefited from energy audits to help identify savings opportunities and improve efficiency.

Minister Canney also said that larger scale supports are available through the EXEED programme, which can provide up to €3 million for major commercial energy and emissions reduction projects. In Co. Galway to date manufacturing companies, shops, leisure centres and hotels have benefited from the EXEED programme. The Support Scheme for Renewable Heat helps businesses move away from fossil fuels and reduce long-term energy costs.

He also highlighted the availability of grants for commercial electric vehicles, with supports of up to €3,500 for passenger cars and €3,800 for small vans, alongside larger scale supports for heavy-duty vehicles and major commercial energy projects.
