Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, is encouraging people to consider a career in An Garda Síochána as the latest national recruitment campaign officially opens today.
The competition opened on Monday, 11 May and applications will remain open until Wednesday, 3 June at 3pm through publicjobs.ie.
The campaign highlights the wide variety of careers available within An Garda Síochána, from frontline community policing and road policing to specialist units including the Dog Unit, Mounted Unit, Water Unit, Crimecall and organised crime investigations.
Minister Canney said the role of a Garda offers people the chance to build a rewarding career while making a real difference in communities across the country.
“Being a Garda is a career that offers huge variety, strong opportunities for progression and the chance to genuinely help people every day.
“One of the things that stands out about An Garda Síochána is the strong connection Gardaí have with the communities they serve. That work makes a real difference to people’s lives.”
Minister Canney also welcomed the continued investment in Garda recruitment and training.
“It is positive to see strong momentum continuing with Garda recruitment, with over 2,700 trainees having entered the Garda College since recruitment resumed in late 2022.
Garda trainees are paid while training and receive accommodation and meals during the 36-week programme at the Garda College. Graduates receive a Level 7 Bachelor of Arts in Applied Policing accredited by the University of Limerick.
