Minister Canney welcomes additional €3 million TII investment for major Galway road safety and maintenance projects
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the allocation of €3 million in additional Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) funding for Galway, which will support 23 road safety and maintenance projects across the county’s national road network in 2026.
The funding package includes €482,000 for 14 defects schemes, €2.191 million for HD28 pavement and road safety schemes, €277,000 for an Emergency Pavement Scheme on the N59 east of Clifden, and €50,000 for roadside fencing and safety barrier upgrades.
Among the largest allocations announced is €1,122,080 for major resurfacing and skid resistance improvement works on the N84 from Corrandulla Cross to Grange Junction.
Further safety improvement works include €185,820 for the N84 at Knockroone, €75,861 for the Bobby Burke/Dunmore Junction on the N83, and €34,330 for works at Mirehill on the N84.
Welcoming the investment, Minister Canney said: “This is a very significant investment in Galway’s national road network and it will deliver important safety and maintenance improvements right across the county.
“These works will improve safety, strengthen the condition of the road network and help address issues that have caused concern locally for some time.”
The additional funding will also support a wide range of defect repair, drainage and pavement maintenance schemes across Galway.
Projects being progressed include:
- €56,000 for emergency pavement repairs on the N17 north of Milltown
- €50,000 for pavement maintenance works on the N65 from Killimor to Portumna
- €50,000 for flooding drainage works at Annbally on the N83
- €50,000 for flooding drainage works at Abbeyknockmoy on the N63
- €40,000 for footpath repairs on Main Street in Headford on the N84
- €20,000 for emergency pavement repairs in Kinvara on the N67
- €6,000 for flooding drainage works in Portumna on the N65
Minister Canney said the investment will help address longstanding issues on a number of important routes.
