Minister Canney Welcomes Core Funding Increase for Family Resource Centres Across Galway East
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation of increased core funding for Family Resource Centres in Galway East, including Brú Bhríde in Tuam, Gort Family Resource Centre, and Solas Resource Centre in Headford, as part of a nationwide uplift announced by Minister for Children, Disability and Equality, Norma Foley.
Under the funding increase, Brú Bhríde in Tuam and Gort FRC will each receive €20,000, while Solas Headford will receive €17,961, bringing all three centres up to the new national minimum core funding level of €180,000 from January 2026.
Minister Canney said: “This is a very positive announcement for communities right across Galway East. Family Resource Centres are at the heart of community life – offering support to families, providing counselling, education, training and youth activities, and linking people with vital local services.
The staff and volunteers in Brú Bhríde Tuam, Gort FRC and Solas Headford do outstanding work in supporting families and strengthening community networks. This funding increase will help ensure they can continue to deliver those services sustainably into the future.”
The Minister also acknowledged the valuable work of ARD/Doughiska FRC and Clann Resource Centre Oughterard, which will also receive core funding uplifts under the scheme.
Nationally, the new funding will see the minimum annual core funding for all Family Resource Centres rise from €160,000 to €180,000 from January 2026, benefitting 100 of the 126 centres nationwide.
Minister Canney added: “The Family Resource Centre Programme is one of the most effective examples of community-led support in action. This increase in core funding is an investment in local people, local knowledge, and local solutions and it will have a lasting impact for families and communities in Galway and across the country.”
