Minister Canney welcomes €21,000 in funding for equestrian events in Galway East

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed €21,000 in funding for equestrian events in Galway East under the 2026 National Breeding Services Grant Scheme.

The funding, delivered through Horse Sport Ireland with support from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, will support key events in Athenry, Ardrahan and Glenamaddy in the months ahead.

Welcoming the funding, Minister Canney said: “This is a really positive investment in equestrian activity across Galway East. These events are an important part of rural life and play a key role in supporting breeders, producers and local communities.

“This funding will help ensure these well-established events continue to thrive and provide opportunities to showcase the quality of Irish horses.”

Minister Canney added: “The breeding grant scheme is an important support for the next generation of Irish horses, and it also underpins the work of local show committees, many of whom are volunteers putting in huge effort to deliver these events each year.”

The National Breeding Services Grant Scheme supports young horse classes and breeding initiatives across the country, helping to strengthen Ireland’s international reputation for quality sport horses.
