Minister Canney welcomes new approach to showing how infrastructure transforms communities
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the introduction of a new Government framework designed to better explain the real benefits of infrastructure projects for communities across Ireland.
The Benefits Realisation Framework will ensure public infrastructure projects are communicated in a way that is clear, accessible and focused on the difference they make to people’s everyday lives. Rather than concentrating on technical details alone, public bodies will be encouraged to explain how projects support housing delivery, improve transport, strengthen regional development and create opportunities for businesses and communities.
Welcoming the framework, Minister Canney said: “People want to know how an infrastructure project will improve their lives and their communities. They want to know whether it will make it easier to travel to work, whether it will support new homes, improve local services or create opportunities for future generations.
“This new framework puts that front and centre. It recognises that infrastructure is about far more than construction projects – it is about making communities stronger and creating the conditions for people and businesses to thrive.”
Minister Canney said the framework reflects the importance of investing in key infrastructure that helps unlock future development.
The framework also encourages public bodies to explain not only the benefits of infrastructure investment but also the consequences of failing to invest, helping communities better understand why projects are needed and the role they play in supporting future growth.
Minister Canney added: “Across Government we are delivering significant investment in infrastructure. It is important that people can clearly see the difference these projects will make, whether that is supporting housing, improving transport, strengthening local economies or giving communities the infrastructure they need for the future.
