Minister Canney welcomes over €130,000 for Galway East community organisations under Local Enhancement Programme

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the allocation of €130,400.85 to community organisations across Galway East under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026.

The funding forms part of an allocation of €213,600.85 for projects across County Galway, while Galway City Council has received €141,688.31, bringing the total investment for Galway to €355,289.16 under the programme.

Nationally, more than 4,100 community projects will benefit from €7 million in funding through the Local Enhancement Programme. The funding supports community and voluntary organisations with small-scale capital grants to improve facilities, purchase equipment and enhance the services they provide in towns and villages across the country.

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Canney said: “Community organisations are at the heart of life across the country. They bring people together, provide vital services, support local activities and help build stronger, more connected communities, often through the dedication of volunteers.”

“This funding of more than €130,000 will make a real difference to organisations across Galway East. Whether it is improving community facilities, purchasing essential equipment or helping local groups continue the valuable work they do every day, these grants provide practical support where it is needed most.”

“I congratulate the successful organisations and thank the volunteers whose commitment and hard work make these groups such an important part of our towns and villages.”

The Local Enhancement Programme is administered by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs), with support from local authorities, and forms part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting community and voluntary organisations, particularly those serving disadvantaged communities in both rural and urban areas.
