Minister Canney Welcomes Over €20 million in ANC Payments for Galway Farmers
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that more than €20.3 million has been paid out to 9,627 farmers in Galway this week under the Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) Scheme.
Nationally, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has commenced issuing €183.2 million in advance ANC payments to almost 87,000 farmers.
Minister Canney said: “This is a hugely important scheme for farmers in Galway and across the West. The fact that over €20 million is now being paid directly to Galway farmers will provide vital support for family farm incomes, particularly for those operating in more challenging conditions.
The ANC scheme recognises the difficulties of farming in less favourable land areas, and these payments are an essential lifeline in maintaining farm activity and sustaining rural communities.”
The Minister added that timely payments are critical to farmers’ cashflow and welcomed the Department’s commitment to issuing them in mid-September, in line with the Farmers’ Charter.
The ANC advance payment represents 85% of the total due, with the balancing 15% expected to issue in early December. Regular pay runs will continue over the coming weeks to ensure outstanding applications are processed as quickly as possible.
Minister Canney concluded: “Farm families in Galway and right across the country deserve certainty and support. I welcome Minister Heydon’s commitment to follow through with further payments under the BISS, CRISS and Eco-scheme from October.”
