Minister Canney welcomes over €249,000 for Galway animal welfare organisations under record national funding package

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed today’s announcement of €249,800 in funding for Galway animal welfare organisations, as part of the record €6.4 million allocated nationwide to 94 charities under the Animal Welfare Grants Programme.

Minister Canney said the significant allocation to Galway reflects the essential and often life-saving work carried out across the county: “This is a major investment in the wellbeing of animals and in the dedicated rescues and sanctuaries that serve our communities. The €249,800 allocated to Galway will help these organisations continue their outstanding work in rehoming, rehabilitation and public education.

I want to acknowledge the extraordinary commitment of staff and volunteers who give their time to protect vulnerable animals.”

With Christmas approaching, the Minister again urged responsible pet ownership: “A pet can bring great joy, but it comes with long-term responsibility. Anyone considering getting a pet should think carefully and always source from a reputable rescue or breeder.”
