Minister Canney welcomes over €6.6 million for Galway farmers under €86 million Eco-Scheme Balancing Payments
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed today’s announcement by Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon TD that €86 million in Eco-Scheme balancing payments has commenced, including €6,672,338 for Galway farmers.
These payments bring the total issued to farmers nationwide under the 2025 Eco-Scheme to almost €288 million since October, supporting 112,610 participants.
Minister Canney said the funding represents an important boost for family farms across Galway:
“This is a significant level of support for farm families in Galway, with more than €6.6 million now being paid directly to farmers for their work in delivering climate, biodiversity and water-quality measures. These payments recognise the real costs and effort involved and are essential to maintaining the sustainability of farms right across the county.”
He added that timely issuing of supports remains crucial for cashflow on farms: “I welcome Minister Heydon’s commitment to ensuring payments continue to issue without delay. These are supports that farmers rely on.”
Balancing payments are issuing at a rate of 30% and will reach farmers’ accounts in the coming days. The Department will continue to process outstanding cases as they meet scheme criteria.
