Minister Seán Canney Welcomes Completion of Resurfacing Works at Sylane School Avenue

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that resurfacing works on the avenue linking Sylane National School to Sylane village will be completed next week in time for the school reopening.

The road, formerly a private avenue leading to Clais an Aifrinn site and Sylane village was formally taken in charge by Galway County Council following strong local support and consistent representation. The resurfacing works are now nearing completion, providing a major benefit for parents, pupils and staff by improving access to the school and ensuring a safer, more efficient set-down and pick-up area.

Minister Canney said: “This is a really positive development for the community in Sylane. The avenue is a vital link between the school and the village, and these works will make a real difference to families accessing the school on a daily basis. This outcome follows a long campaign by the school community, and I want to acknowledge the patience shown by all involved while these improvements were being delivered.”

The Minister paid tribute to those who played a key role in progressing the project: “I want to thank the Board of Management, the staff and parents at Sylane National School who campaigned tirelessly for this upgrade, as well as the local councillors, the Tuam Municipal District and Galway County Council for ensuring the works were brought to fruition.”

The resurfacing works are scheduled to be completed in full next week, ensuring the avenue is safe, accessible and fit for purpose for years to come.
