Minister Seán Canney Welcomes €696 Million Housing Investment to Accelerate Delivery in 2025
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the Government’s approval of an additional €696 million in capital funding for housing in 2025.
The funding brings the total additional capital allocated to housing programmes this year to over €1.4 billion.
“This additional funding is a clear signal of the Government’s commitment to accelerating housing delivery,” Minister Canney said. “It will enable local authorities and housing bodies to step up delivery, bring vacant homes back into use, prevent homelessness, support homeowners impacted by construction defects and drive new construction in the private sector.”
This capital funding will support:
- Delivery of over 4,600 new social and affordable homes in 2025
- Continued pipeline development for delivery in 2026–2028
- Drawdown of grants under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme
- Support for homeowners under the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block Remediation Scheme
- Additional social housing acquisitions by local authorities and Approved Housing Bodies to prevent homelessness.
Minister Canney added: “Tackling the housing crisis requires a multi-pronged approach. This investment supports a range of targeted actions that will deliver new homes, protect families, and strengthen the resilience of our housing system into the future.”
