Minister Seán Canney Welcomes Over €3.4 Million Investment in Galway Group Water Schemes
Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the approval of over €3.4 million in funding for Galway Group Water Schemes under the Multi-Annual Rural Water Programme (MARWP) 2024–2026.
A total of 41 projects across County Galway will benefit from a combined allocation of €3,429,541, supporting vital water infrastructure upgrades and network extensions in rural communities.
Minister Canney highlighted the importance of the investment in strengthening water services for homes and businesses across the county: “This funding represents a major step forward in modernising and future-proofing our rural water infrastructure in Galway. These schemes are a lifeline for thousands of families and businesses, and this investment will deliver real improvements in reliability, quality, and environmental standards.”

Minister Canney praised the local authorities and Group Water Scheme committees for their commitment to upgrading local services: “The delivery of these projects reflects the tireless work of group water scheme committees, community groups and Galway County Council who are deeply committed to improving services. I am proud to support their efforts through this Programme.”
This funding forms part of a national package of €74 million approved under the second phase of MARWP 2024–2026, which will support over 290 projects across the country.
