Minister Seán Canney welcomes progress on Galway East school building projects

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed major progress on three school building projects across Galway East.

The Department of Education has issued a Letter of Intent to the preferred bidder for the new Gort National School, which will deliver a modern building with 12 classrooms and 2 SEN rooms under the Large-Scale Capital Programme.

Two further projects have now reached practical completion and will be handed over shortly. At Scoil Iosaf Naofa, Kinvara, the completed extension provides a new classroom, a SEN base and a central activities room. At Caltra National School, Ballinasloe, works include a new multi-classroom room with ancillary space and a SET room.

Minister Canney said the updates represent real investment in Galway East: “These projects in Gort, Kinvara and Caltra are very positive for pupils, staff and families. I will continue to work with the Department to ensure our schools get the facilities they need.”
