Minister Seán Canney Welcomes Strong Budget Focus on Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Use

Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the significant measures announced in today’s Budget to support Irish agriculture, farmers and rural communities.

Minister Canney said the additional funding represents “a strong commitment to the future of farming and to the families and communities who depend on it.”

Minister Canney also welcomed today’s announcement in the Budget that a further opportunity has been announced for landowners to seek an exemption from the Residential Zoned Land Tax in 2026 where genuine economic activity is taking place.

Minister Canney added: “This Budget reinforces support for farmers and rural communities while ensuring that where appropriate, land is used to meet housing needs. It’s a balanced approach that rewards active development, safeguards agricultural activity, and promotes sustainable growth across our regions.”
