Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that the car park in front of the old Courthouse in Tuam will be resurfaced next Wednesday and reopened the following morning for parents dropping off children at Tuam Educate Together National School.
The car park had been closed in recent months due to safety concerns, creating difficulties for parents and the school community. Following Minister Canney’s representations to Galway County Council and the Courts Service, agreement has now been reached to carry out the necessary works and restore access.
Minister Canney said: “I am delighted that common sense has prevailed and that this issue has been resolved. The reopening of the car park will make life easier for parents, staff and pupils at Tuam Educate Together. I want to sincerely thank the school, the Board of Management and all the parents for their patience while this matter was being worked through. And also a word of thanks to Courts Service and Galway County Council, especially the engineers in the Tuam office who made this possible.”
The resurfacing works are due to be completed on Wednesday, with the car park reopening in time for Thursday morning’s school drop-off.
