Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed today’s announcement of the establishment of a new Offshore Wind Energy Clearing House.
Minister Canney said the move is an important milestone in Ireland’s renewable energy journey: “The establishment of the Offshore Wind Energy Clearing House is a vital step in ensuring Ireland can quickly harness the enormous potential of our offshore wind resource. It will help to overcome barriers, provide clear direction, and give confidence to industry and communities that Ireland is serious about delivering on its climate and energy security commitments.”
The Clearing House will be chaired by the Secretary General of the Department of the Taoiseach and will bring together senior officials from across Government, alongside industry representatives and public sector organisations. It will complement the work of the Offshore Wind Delivery Taskforce, ensuring issues that require cross-Government attention are addressed swiftly and effectively.
Minister Canney added: “Ireland’s offshore wind sector represents one of the greatest opportunities for clean energy, economic growth and long-term energy security. The West coast, in particular, has an unrivalled offshore wind resource that can play a central role in delivering this ambition. The Clearing House will ensure that Government and industry are working hand in hand to realise this potential for the benefit of the Irish people.”
The Clearing House will hold its first meeting in the coming weeks.
