Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed funding of more than €462,000 for community climate action projects across Galway East.
The funding is being provided under Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme, which supports practical, community-led projects that help reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, support active travel, cut waste and strengthen local biodiversity.
Galway County Council has been allocated €858,575.72 under the programme, while Galway City Council has received €500,550.90.
A total of 11 medium-scale projects in Galway East have been approved for funding of €260,089, supporting major upgrades and sustainability measures in community centres, sports clubs and local facilities.
The successful medium-scale projects are:

• Kilconly Development Association – €20,000
• Duniry Community Facilities – €20,000
• St Brendan’s Hurling Club – €20,000
• Lawrencetown Community Development Group CLG – €20,000
A further 19 small-scale projects in Galway East will receive a combined €202,576.66 for local climate and sustainability initiatives.
Minister Canney said: “This is very welcome funding for communities right across Galway East.
“These are practical projects that will make a real difference locally – from solar panels on community buildings and insulation works, to bike shelters, water refill stations, native planting, food growing projects and waste reduction measures.
“What is particularly positive is that this funding is going directly into local community centres, GAA clubs, childcare facilities, sports grounds, theatres, parish facilities and voluntary groups that are at the heart of their communities.
“I want to congratulate all the successful groups. Community organisations across Galway East are already doing enormous work, and this funding will help them take the next step.”
The Community Climate Action Programme is funded through the Climate Action Fund and administered through local authorities.
