Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has confirmed that approval has been granted for the contract to be signed for the construction of the new national school at Carrabane.

This follows intense negotiations by Minister Canney with the Department of Education and the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation (DPER).

The new school will include eight classrooms and a sensory room and all ancillary buildings. 

Minister Canney said DPER has now confirmed approval for the awarding of the contract to the successful contractor. The contract will be signed by the Board of Management shortly, with construction expected to begin in the coming months.

Minister Canney said: “I’m delighted to confirm that approval has been given for the awarding of the contract for construction of the new national school at Carrabane.

“This is a badly needed facility. The local community has been campaigning for a new school for two decades, and I want to pay tribute to the Principal, staff, Board of Management, parents, past students and former parents who have campaigned for so long.”
