Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation of €31,219 in capital funding for four youth services in Galway East.

The funding forms part of a national investment of more than €1.6 million in UBU-funded youth services, supporting minor works, equipment purchases and facility upgrades in youth services nationwide.

The local allocations are:

  • Brú Bhríde Family Resource Centre, Tuam – €19,940
  • Foróige Gort – €7,821
  • YWIG Tuam Youth Service – €1,451
  • YWIG East Galway – €2,007

Minister Canney said the funding would provide practical support to improve facilities and resources available to young people.

“Youth services play an important role in our communities, providing young people with opportunities to develop skills, build confidence, make connections and take part in a wide range of activities.

“This funding will allow these services to invest in their facilities and equipment and help ensure young people have access to safe, welcoming and well-equipped spaces and I am delighted to see the funding in Galway East.

The funding can support a wide range of improvements including ICT and digital infrastructure, building refurbishment and premises upgrades, youth programme and recreation equipment, fire, safety and security works, kitchen and domestic facilities, arts, music and creative media equipment, accessibility and inclusion improvements and energy efficiency measures.

It is the first dedicated capital funding stream for minor works and equipment upgrades available to UBU-funded youth services since 2023.
