Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the approval of funding for improvement works at two schools in Galway East under the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme.
Coláiste an Chreagáin in Mountbellew and Portumna Community School are among 229 schools nationwide approved for funding under an €80 million investment announced by Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton.
The two Galway East schools have been approved for the following works:
- Coláiste an Chreagáin, Mountbellew – Climate action and mechanical works.
- Portumna Community School – Climate Action & Windows Projects
Minister Canney said: “This is very welcome news for both Coláiste an Chreagáin in Mountbellew and Portumna Community School.
“Investing in our school buildings is hugely important. We want pupils and teachers to have comfortable, safe and modern facilities, and these works will help improve the school environment while also making the buildings more energy efficient.
“School communities work hard to maintain and improve their facilities, and Government funding like this is essential in supporting that work.
“I am delighted to see both schools included in this latest round of funding and look forward to seeing the improvements delivered.”
The €80 million investment will support works at 229 schools across the country, including roof repairs, window replacements, electrical and mechanical upgrades and improvements to toilet facilities.
The Climate Action Summer Works Scheme is designed to improve the condition of school buildings while reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.
The latest announcement is the second tranche of approvals under the multi-annual scheme, with a further round of funding decisions expected in late 2027.
