Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that work will begin next week on a major upgrade of more than 2km of water mains in Loughrea.
The works at Carrowbaun and Carrowmore will involve upgrading over two 2km of water mains to provide additional capacity for new housing developments west of the town, while also improving water supplies for existing homes and businesses.
The project is being delivered under Uisce Éireann’s Accelerated Growth programme, which aims to remove water infrastructure barriers to housing development.
Minister Canney said: “This is a very positive development for Loughrea. Having the right water infrastructure in place is essential if we are to deliver more homes and support the continued growth of the town.
“These works will provide additional capacity for new housing while also improving the reliability of water supplies for existing residents and businesses.”
Works are due to begin next week and are expected to be completed by January 2027.
Temporary single-lane closures will be required on sections of the R349, L3114 and L8179. Works will take place in short sections to minimise disruption, with local and emergency access maintained throughout. Works will take place Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm.
