Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the allocation of more than €310,000 in funding to 16 community facilities across Galway East under the Community Centre Investment Fund 2026.

The funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary, will support a range of refurbishment works, facility improvements, energy upgrades and other essential projects.

Minister Canney said the investment was very good news for the communities involved.

“Our community centres play a vital role in towns and villages across Galway East, providing facilities for sporting, cultural, recreational and social activities.

“This funding will allow local groups to carry out important improvements to their facilities, ensuring they remain welcoming, accessible and fit for purpose for the people who use them.

“I want to particularly acknowledge the volunteers and community committees who put so much time and effort into maintaining these facilities and preparing funding applications. Their work is invaluable, particularly in our rural communities.

“Investing in community facilities is investing in the future of our towns and villages, and I am delighted to see so many projects across Galway East benefiting.”
