Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the formal approval of LEADER funding for significant upgrades to the playground at Belclare Sports Facility, following an application submitted by him on behalf of the local community.

Funding of €34,448.53 has been approved under the LEADER Programme to support a package of improvement works at the playground. A formal funding agreement will be signed shortly, allowing the project to proceed. The works will be carried out in the coming months.

The approved works include the replacement of the existing wet-pour surface, installation of a new wet-pour surface beneath the zip line, upgrades to a number of existing pieces of play equipment, and the installation of additional new play equipment.

Minister Canney confirmed that the funding was approved for Belclare Sylane Community Council which manages the playground at the Belclare Sports Facility.

“This funding approval is very welcome and will make a real difference to the quality and safety of the playground for local children and families,” Minister Canney said. “The works will ensure the facility remains a safe, modern and inclusive space for the community to enjoy.”

Minister Canney acknowledged the support received during the application process, thanking Galway Rural Development, and in particular Claire Conroy and the LEADER team, for their assistance in progressing the project under the LEADER programme.
