Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that water mains replacement works will commence in the Corrandulla area of Galway next week.

Uisce Éireann will replace 924 metres of ageing water mains from Aucloggeen to Tumnahalla along the L-2121-47 and L-2121-40 roads. The programme of works will help ensure a more secure and reliable supply of drinking water for homes and businesses in the area.

The replacement of the old pipework will reduce the risk of bursts and other operational issues on the network, while also cutting down on treated water lost through leakage.

Welcoming the works, Minister Canney said: “I welcome the commencement of these essential water mains replacement works in Corrandulla. Replacing almost a kilometre of aging pipework will significantly improve the reliability of supply for local homes and businesses while reducing bursts and water loss.

This investment strengthens the local water network and supports sustainable growth in the area. I thank residents and road users for their patience while these necessary works are carried out.”

Works are due to begin next week and are expected to be completed by the summer. Traffic management measures, including 2/3-way traffic lights, will be required to ensure the safety of crews and road users. A temporary road closure will also be necessary later in the project.

Any queries regarding the works can be directed to Uisce Éireann’s Customer Contact Centre, which is available 24/7 on freephone 1800 278 278.
