Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the announcement of €62,900 in funding for eight agricultural shows across Galway East as part of a €1 million national investment supporting 126 shows nationwide. In total 19 shows in Galway are included in today’s announcement.

The funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary TD, will support local show committees as they prepare for the 2026 show season.

The Galway East shows receiving funding are:

  • Ardrahan Agricultural Show – €6,700
  • Athenry Agricultural Show – €8,400
  • Corrandulla Show – €8,400
  • Glenamaddy District Ploughing & Agricultural Show – €9,200
  • Gort & District Show – €6,700
  • Loughrea Agricultural Show – €6,700
  • Monivea Show – €8,400
  • Mountbellew Agricultural Show – €8,400

Welcoming the funding, Minister Canney said: “Agricultural shows are a hugely important part of rural life. They celebrate farming, bring communities together and provide a great day out for families each summer.

“Across Galway East we have a strong tradition of agricultural shows – these events are run by dedicated local committees and volunteers who put in months of work each year, and this funding helps support that effort.”
