Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has warmly welcomed today’s announcement that Tuam will benefit from a new Family Resource Centre (FRC) as part of the national expansion of the Tusla Family Resource Centre Programme.

The new centre will be established at Bru Bhríde, Churchview, Tuam, and will form part of a nationwide allocation of five new FRCs for 2025.

Minister Canney said the announcement by Minister Norma Foley represents a major boost for families, children and community services in Tuam:  “I am delighted that Tuam has been chosen as the location for a new Family Resource Centre under Tusla’s national programme. Family Resource Centres are at the very heart of communities – offering support, advice and inclusive services for families and children when they need it most.

This investment is a recognition of the real needs in Tuam and the surrounding area, and it will provide a long-term, sustainable resource for local people. I want to commend Tusla and Bru Bhríde for their work in bringing this project to fruition and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on families across Tuam and North Galway.”

Applications for the new centres were reviewed against clear criteria, including population need, levels of deprivation, child population data and gaps in existing services.

Each new centre will receive annual core funding of €160,000, with integration and practical support provided by the Family Resource Centre National Forum.

Minister Canney concluded: “The expansion of the Family Resource Centre network is a clear commitment in the Programme for Government, and today’s decision ensures Tuam will directly benefit from that pledge to strengthen families and communities.”
