Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed today’s announcement of €7 million in Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026 funding, including over €355,000 for Galway communities.

Under the allocation:

• Galway County: €213,600.85

• Galway City: €141,688.31

Minister Canney said the funding will make a tangible difference to voluntary and community groups across the county:

“This is very welcome news for community organisations in Galway City and County. LEP funding helps groups upgrade facilities, purchase essential equipment, and make community spaces more accessible and energy efficient. These improvements are vital in keeping local amenities active and inclusive.

“The programme directs support to the areas that need it most, enabling volunteer-led groups to continue providing the services and spaces that hold our communities together. I want to acknowledge the enormous dedication of volunteers who strengthen community life in Galway.”

The LEP provides small capital grants for improvements to community facilities, with a focus on disadvantaged areas. Funding can support accessibility works, energy-efficiency upgrades and equipment that enhances participation.

Minister Canney encouraged groups to contact Galway’s Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs), which will administer the funding locally, for more details on deadlines.
