Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rails and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the allocation of over €100,000 in funding for adult literacy, numeracy, digital, and financial literacy projects across Galway and Roscommon, as part of a broader national investment of more than €1 million.
The funding was announced by Ministers James Lawless and Marian Harkin under the Adult Literacy for Life (ALL) Collaboration and Innovation Fund, which supports community-based projects that help adults improve essential life skills.
Galway is among the key regional beneficiaries, with funding directed to local partnerships delivering targeted supports to adults with unmet literacy and digital needs. Minister Canney said he was particularly pleased to see this investment reach communities across Galway.
“This funding supports transformative work happening on the ground in Galway — helping people to improve their literacy, digital, and financial skills so they can fully participate in society and the economy. I commend the staff, learners, and community organisations involved in delivering these programmes. They are making a real and lasting difference to people’s lives and futures.”
The announcement was made at the ‘Literacy Changing Lives’ event in Croke Park, hosted by the Adult Literacy for Life National Programme Office in SOLAS. The showcase brought together learners, educators, and stakeholders from across the country to highlight the impact of community collaboration.
