Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed Uisce Éireann’s announcement that essential water mains replacement works will commence this week on the R332 in Tuam.
The project will replace over 350 metres of aging water mains between Rinkippeen and the Garraun Park Junction, significantly improving the quality and security of drinking water for homes and businesses. The works form part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme and are scheduled for completion by Spring 2026.
Minister Canney said the investment will deliver long-term benefits for the Tuam area: “This is a very welcome and necessary upgrade for Tuam’s water network. Replacing ageing mains will reduce leakage, strengthen water quality and provide a far more reliable service for local residents and businesses.”
To minimise disruption over the Christmas period, construction will pause from Friday 19 December until early January. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works, but local and emergency access will be maintained at all times.
Some short, planned water interruptions may be required, with at least 48 hours’ notice provided to affected customers.
