Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rails and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has warmly welcomed the allocation of €10,400 in Government funding to ten Parent and Toddler Groups in Galway East under the 2025 Parent and Toddler Group Grant Scheme.

The funding, announced by Minister for Children, Disability and Equality Norma Foley TD, is part of a national package of €421,618 supporting 461 groups across Ireland.

The following groups in Galway East have been approved for funding:

Athenry Parent & Toddler Group – €1,100

Chat & Play Parent & Toddler Group – €1,300

Clontuskert Parent & Toddler Group – €1,000

Clydagh Parent & Toddler Group – €1,000

Corofin Parent & Toddler Group – €1,100

Craughwell Parent & Toddler Group – €1,100

Gort Parent & Toddler Group – €800

Headford/Cloughanover Parent & Toddler Group – €1,100

Mullagh Parent & Toddler Group – €1,100

Woodford Parent & Toddler Group – €800

Minister Canney said: “This investment of €10,400 is a direct boost to families across Galway East. Parent and Toddler groups offer so much more than playtime — they’re a source of support, connection, and community for parents and young children alike. I’m delighted to see strong support for these local groups that continue to deliver a positive impact in rural towns and villages.”

The Parent and Toddler Group Grant Initiative, part of the Government’s First 5 strategy, supports community-based groups with funding for toys, books, snacks, equipment, cleaning supplies, parenting courses, first aid training, and the establishment of buggy walking groups.

Minister Canney concluded: “I want to thank all those behind these groups — the coordinators, parents, and volunteers — who give their time to create welcoming and supportive spaces for families. This funding is well-deserved recognition of their work.”
