Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed confirmation that over €40 million is being paid this week to 10,621 farmers in Galway under the 2025 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) schemes.
The payments form part of a €510.9 million national allocation which will support 110,499 farmers across the country.
Minister Canney said the scale of this funding demonstrates Government’s ongoing support for family farms and rural communities: “This €40 million injection into Galway’s rural economy is hugely important. It provides stability for local farm families, supports businesses throughout the county, and underlines the value of the agriculture sector to our local economy. These schemes are a cornerstone of sustainable farming and are critical to maintaining livelihoods in rural Galway.”
He added that the payments build on the Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) funding issued in September, bringing total area-based payments nationally to over €694 million in the past month.
“This reflects the Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting farm incomes and sustaining rural communities right across the country.”
Nationwide, 93.9 percent of eligible farmers have now received their BISS and CRISS payments, with remaining cases to be processed as quickly as they meet scheme criteria. Payments under the Eco-Scheme are due to commence next week.
