Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the announcement of an additional €5 million in funding for the Post Office Network under Budget 2026.

The increased investment brings total annual capital support for the network to €15 million, strengthening its role at the heart of rural and community life across Ireland.

Minister Canney said: “This is welcome news for rural Ireland. Post offices are the backbone of local communities, providing vital services and social connection. The Government has delivered an additional €5 million, ensuring that the network can continue to evolve and serve communities for years to come.”

The Department’s enhanced capital provision will underpin the long-term sustainability and viability of the network, with detailed proposals to be brought to Government to ensure funding is in place from 2026 onwards.
