Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has warmly welcomed the announcement that the Early Talk Boost programme will expand this month with the recruitment of up to 50 additional tutors.
The programme, which tackles language delay among young children, is already being delivered in 108 early learning and care settings across 18 counties, including five settings in Galway. It will now be extended to additional services nationwide from September.
Minister Canney said: “Early Talk Boost is a hugely positive intervention that is making a real difference to children’s language and communication skills at a critical stage in their development. I am particularly pleased to see its expansion into Galway where early years settings are already benefitting. By supporting both educators and parents, the programme ensures children get the best start possible in their early learning journey.”
Children who participate in Early Talk Boost attend three sessions per week over an eight-week period, with small group activities delivered in their own early learning and care setting. Parents are also supported to reinforce language development at home through dedicated story packs and workshops.
Minister Canney added: “Language and communication are the foundations for learning. The success of Early Talk Boost shows the value of targeted investment in early years, and I want to commend the early learning practitioners, HSE tutors and parents who are delivering this impact on the ground.”
