Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the commencement of safety improvement works at Casey’s Cross junction outside Athenry, at the intersection of the L4102 and L8108 at Moyvilla.

Minister Canney said the junction has been the scene of numerous accidents over many years, and the works now underway mark the first phase in a wider effort to enhance road safety in the area.

“I am delighted to see safety works being carried out at Casey’s Cross junction, which has long been a concern for local residents and motorists,” Minister Canney said. “This represents Phase 1 in providing a safer junction layout, with further works to follow.”

The Minister paid tribute to the local authority team and community members for their roles in progressing the project.

“I want to commend Peter Gavin, Area Engineer with Galway County Council, for the swift action undertaken to improve this junction. I also want to acknowledge the patience of local residents who raised this issue with me. Their input has been vital in getting this first stage complete,” he said.
