Seán Canney TD Minister for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers has welcomed the commencement of €350 million in balancing payments under the BISS, CRISS, ANC and CISYF schemes, with Galway farmers receiving a total of €27 million under the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) scheme for 2025 – one of the highest allocations in the country.

Minister Canney said the payments provide essential certainty for farmers across Galway and the West: “Galway is a major beneficiary of these schemes, with 10,666 farmers receiving over €27 million in ANC payments for 2025. This reflects the scale of farming in our county and the importance of these supports to family farm income and to our rural economy.”

Nationally, the commencement of balancing payments today means €281 million in BISS and CRISS balancing payments is now issuing, bringing total BISS/CRISS/CISYF payments to €819 million, with 116,681 farmers paid.

On ANC, an additional €37 million has issued today, bringing the total ANC payment for 2025 to €241 million, with over 99% of eligible farmers now paid. The county breakdown confirms Galway’s total allocation of €27,013,377 for 2025.

Minister Canney also welcomed the commencement of €32 million under the Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers (CISYF):

“Supporting young farmers is essential to the future of agriculture. The CISYF payments announced today make a real difference for those starting out and support generational renewal in the sector.”

He encouraged any farmers with outstanding queries to engage with the Department as soon as possible so remaining payments can issue without delay.
