Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the launch of a new call for proposals for Agri-Food Tourism initiatives under the 2026 Rural Innovation and Development Fund.
The call, announced by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Martin Heydon TD, will provide almost €300,000 in funding to support innovative agri-food tourism projects, with up to €25,000 available per project.
Minister Canney said the scheme plays an important role in strengthening rural economies by supporting projects that link local food production with tourism experiences.
“Agri-food tourism is a natural strength for rural Ireland, particularly in our coastal and farming communities,” Minister Canney said. “This funding supports local businesses and community groups to develop high-quality food and drink experiences that showcase local produce, create employment and enhance the visitor experience.”
He said the initiative aligns strongly with the objectives of Food Vision 2030, particularly in supporting business development, marketing and stronger connections between the agri-food and tourism sectors.
“Projects supported under this fund help rural enterprises to diversify, build resilience and connect more directly with visitors and local communities,” he added. “The success of previous initiatives shows the real value of targeted investment in locally led ideas.”
Applications are invited for a wide range of agri-food tourism initiatives, including food festivals, visitor attractions, food trails and on-farm or artisan experiences.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 12.00 noon on Wednesday, 25 February 2026. Application forms and full details are available on the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine website.
