Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the latest Central Statistics Office (CSO) figures showing that 16,679 new homes were completed across Ireland during the first six months of 2026 – the highest number of first-half-year housing completions since records began in 2011.
The figures represent a 10.8% increase on the same period in 2025, when 15,059 homes were completed, and provide a strong foundation for further housing delivery during the remainder of the year.
Welcoming the figures, Minister Canney said: “These record first-half completion figures are encouraging and show that the measures being taken to increase housing supply are delivering results.”
“This progress demonstrates that we are building momentum. Every new home completed is important for individuals and families looking for a secure place to live.”
“With almost 16,000 new housing commencements also recorded during the first half of the year, there is a strong pipeline of future housing delivery. Our focus now is on maintaining that momentum, supporting the construction sector and ensuring more homes are delivered across the country.”
The latest CSO figures show:
- 16,679 new homes completed between January and June 2026, up 10.8% on the same period last year.
- 5,011 apartments completed, an increase of 4.5%.
- 8,830 scheme houses completed, up 15%.
- 2,838 single dwellings completed, an increase of 9.7%.
Housing completions traditionally increase during the second half of the year, with the latest figures providing a positive outlook for overall housing delivery in 2026.
