Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed funding support for Men’s Sheds across Galway, with over €18,000 allocated to nine sheds in Galway East.

The funding, provided through the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht and distributed by the Irish Men’s Sheds Association (IMSA), has supported 369 sheds nationwide with grants of up to €3,000 to help with day-to-day running costs such as heating, electricity and insurance.

Across Galway East, sheds in Athenry, Ballinderreen, Dunmore, Headford, Loughrea, Mountbellew, Monivea, Tuam and Tynagh have received a combined total of €18,106.77.

In total, 24 Men’s Sheds across Galway have benefitted from this funding.

Welcoming the support, Minister Canney said: “This is really important funding for Men’s Sheds, and particularly for the nine groups across Galway East who are doing great work in their communities every day.

“These sheds are more than just a place to meet – they’re a lifeline for many men. They provide connection, routine, and a sense of belonging, especially in rural areas where isolation can be a real issue.

“This funding helps with the basics – keeping the lights on, the heat going, and the doors open – but the impact goes far beyond that.”

The funding has already been paid in full to all 369 sheds over recent months.
