Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed funding for a number of Small Scale Local Festivals and Summer Schools taking place in Galway in 2026.

Funding of €9,000 has been allocated to a number of groups and organisations in Galway East. More than €371,000 has been approved nationally to support 105 festivals, summer schools and cultural events across the country. The scheme provides funding for smaller local events that play an important role in celebrating Ireland’s culture, heritage and community life.

Among the successful organisations in Galway East are:

• Resurgam Choir CLG, Headford– €1,500
• Sparkcatchers, Tuam – €2,500
• Centre for Environmental Living & Training, Headford – €2,500
• Aleen Cust Memorial Society – €2,500

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Canney said: “These organisations make a huge contribution to cultural life in our communities.”

“These grants will make a real difference to volunteers and organisers who work throughout the year to deliver festivals, performances, educational events and community initiatives. I want to congratulate each of the successful groups and thank them for the work they do.”
