Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the upcoming launch of Phase 2 of the Starter Homes development at Fearann na hEascrach, Athenry.

A total of 37 three-bedroom homes at Raheen Road, Athenry, will be made available for sale, comprising:

  • 19 three-bedroom mid-terrace homes
  • 16 three-bedroom end-terrace homes
  • 2 three-bedroom semi-detached homes

Applications will open through an online portal at 10am on Thursday, 1 October 2026, and will remain open until 5pm on Thursday, 22 October 2026.

Minister Canney said: “This is a significant addition of 37 homes in Athenry and will provide an important opportunity for eligible applicants who want to purchase their own home in the area.

“It is important that we continue to increase the supply of homes and give people practical opportunities to put down roots in their own communities.”

The scheme, previously known as the Affordable Housing Scheme, has been rebranded as Starter Homes. The eligibility requirements, application process and purchasing arrangements remain unchanged.

Interested applicants can also register their interest in attending show house viewings.

Further information on the Fearann na hEascrach scheme, including the Scheme of Priority, application form and details of the supporting documentation required, will be available through Galway County Council at galway.ie/starterhomes.
