Seán Canney TD, Minister of State for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports and Leader in Cabinet of the Independent Ministers, has welcomed the announcement of €34,000 in funding for 26 TidyTowns groups across Galway East.
In total, 51 TidyTowns groups across Galway City and County are eligible for €71,000 in funding under the scheme.
The allocations form part of a €1.5 million national funding package to support almost 1,000 TidyTowns groups nationwide.
Minister Canney said: “TidyTowns volunteers do tremendous work in our towns and villages, giving their time throughout the year to make their communities better places to live, work and visit.
“I see that commitment first-hand right across Galway. These groups take enormous pride in their communities, and the work they do, from maintaining public spaces and planting flowers to protecting biodiversity, makes a real difference.
“This €34,000 in funding is practical support for 26 local groups and will help them continue that work in the year ahead.
“I want to thank all the volunteers for their dedication and for the contribution they make to their communities.”
TidyTowns groups that entered the SuperValu TidyTowns Competition in 2024, 2025 or 2026 are eligible to apply for grants ranging from €1,000 to €4,000.
The funding can support preparations for the 2027 competition, as well as projects focused on sustainability and biodiversity.
