Galway County Council has been allocated €856,959 for unadopted roads around the county under the Local Improvement Scheme.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “I am delighted to announce details of the scheme for 2020.
“The grant from my department, the Department for Rural and Community Development, matches last year’s allocation, which made a substantial contribution to maintaining our local infrastructure and to allowing people improved access to their homes and farms.
“The Local Improvement Scheme is aimed at small roads and boreens that are not under the control of the County Council.
“Applicants under the scheme have to fund a fraction of the cost of the improvements depending on the number or residents living on the road.
“The maximum amount that any individual or landowner will have to contribute is €1,200.
“The scheme is hugely important for Rural Ireland and I want to acknowledge the support of my ministerial colleague Michael Ring TD in facilitating its delivery.
“Further details and information about the scheme are available at my constituency office.”
