Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney has welcomed more than €440,000 in sports capital grants for the constituency and surrounding areas.
The grants, which are for equipment only, include €94,391 for Tuam Golf Club, €86,196 for Loughrea Golf Club, €63,322 for Mountbellew Golf Club , €62,649 for Portumna Golf Club, €51,746, for Tuam Rugby Club, €41,639 for Dunmore Demesne Golf Club and €14,865 for Ballinasloe Golf Club.
Minister Canney said: “I am delighted for all the clubs that have received funding from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
“In many cases, the money will be used to pay for essential machinery and maintenance equipment. In the case of Loughrea Golf Club, the funding award was vital for the club’s survival.
“I am also very pleased to see a wide range of sports clubs benefiting from the funding, such as Meelick Eyrecourt Kayak Club, who will receive €8,969, Dunmore and District Gun Club, who will receive €15,774 for clay pigeon shooting equipment and St Colman’s Basketball Club, Gort, who will be receiving €3,104 for additional hoops and training packs.”
Further allocations for sport clubs who have applied for non-equipment only funding are expected to made in September.
