The implementation of the National Broadband Plan in County Galway has begun.
National Broadband Ireland vehicles are carrying out survey work around the county prior to the installation process.
Galway East TD and Minister for Rural Affairs Seán Canney said: “It is great to see the NBI vehicles on the road.
“These vehicles will be a familiar sight throughout the county as the work progresses.
“The National Broadband Plan will connect 1.1 million people across the country, including 500,000 premises, 54,000 farms, 44,000 businesses and 695 schools.
“Around €152 million will be invested in providing high-speed fibre broadband throughout Galway over the next 25 years.
“We will also be setting up 300 public Broadband Connection Points in remote areas within the next 12 months. Galway itself will have 20 connection points around the county.
“The National Broadband Plan will transform Rural Ireland, creating huge opportunities for economic development and remote working.”
