I recently visited the site of the new €4.3 million St Oliver’s Special School in Tuam.
It is great to see construction under way on what will be a state of the art school.
The school at the Glebe will have a floor space of 2,221 sq metres.
Construction is expected to take 12 months and when complete, Tuam will have a first class educational facility for students with special needs.
The new school is another major step forward for educational provision in Tuam.
We have seen the new Gaelscoil open with an investment of €6 million; Phase One of Archbishop McHale College opened following an investment of €5 million; Cahergal National School opened at a cost of €5 million; and there have been facilities upgrades at the Mercy College, Presentation College, St Jarlath’s and St Pat’s National School.
We also now have a plan for the national schools, with St Pat’s, the Mercy NS and the Presentation NS amalgamating into a 32-classroom school on one site.
The Educate Together National School will get a permanent building as part of the overall plan, which will secure the future of Tuam’s National Schools for the next 40 years.
